Hello there, I’m releasing version 1.3.6 of Tandil WordPress Theme today! Facebook Support was added. You can add your facebook url and activate it from the admin panel. It will show along with Twitter and RSS.

Another improvement is the options panel. The URLs were “sanitized” to avoid undesirable characters to display in the output. It may sound too technical, I know. Basically it’s to comply with the latest wordpress version security demands.

Tandil Theme 1.3.4 Released

Hello everyone! I’m releasing a new version of Tandil Theme today. I’ve had some requests from users to add some lines of the articles, to the category and tag pages. So I added the excerpts feature to the category and tags pages. In the last few versions I minified CSS code, which means that the style.css is going to load faster. This traduces in a faster loading theme.

2010 will be a great year for WordPress and it’s extend framework, WordPress Themes and Plugins. The comnunity is going to get better and better. Soon, WordPress will be a “must have” to run any professional and successful site. Not just blogs, but any site, from e-commerce to personal sites. WordPress is the leading Content Management System.

I will release many more themes next year, so make sure to check this site often and Wp Themes Planet. I will also release Professional Premium Themes during the first months of 2010. Another great news is that I have partenerd with one of my colleagues to start offering free blog hosting to my theme users, but I will release this via Twitter and RSS first, so make sure to subscribe to the RSS and Twitter.

How do Search Engines find you?

The most common way that search engine robots find and spider a Blog is by following hyperlinks from other sites. In search engine terminology, these sites are known as
“found pages”. Some search engines also have a “submit URL” form, where you can suggest that they add your Blog to their index. Typically, you just give the primary URL for your site (like http://www.tandiltheme.com), and this address is added to their list of links to check and crawl.

There are some services that let you submit your site “automatically”. Currently, there are only four “major” search engines, and you can’t even submit to all of them. 95% of your search engine traffic will come from one of these major search engines. This is not really a good deal, even if it’s free. The same applies to software that submits your site to “thousands” of search engines. As I’ve just stated, only a few search engines actually matter. Using this software is more likely to generate a flood of junk email than anything else, so stay away of it.

If all of this sounds like I’m recommending you let the search engines find you, rather than submitting your site, I am. I haven’t submitted anything to the search engines in years, and it rarely takes more than a week or so for them to find and crawl my new sites. If your site has some unique content, it will be crawled even faster. I recommend using WordPress, since it will ping all major search engines automatically and I recommend using one of my SEO optimized WordPress themes, Patagonia or Tandil Theme.

You must focus on getting links set up – this will not only improve your rankings, it will ensure that the search engines can find you on their own. Some search engines (like Yahoo) offer a “paid inclusion” program. Although you get no special advantage from using it, in terms of your site’s ranking, it does ensure that your site’s indexing is up to date. This isn’t necessarily a great deal, since it usually involves paying by the click for traffic you may have gotten anyway.

User Feedback is very important

The concept of “User Feedback” is very important for a Blog. Most Search Engines have some notion of “user experience” in their rankings. This can be as simple as measuring whether a surfer who clicks a link on search results returns to look at another result. Also all search engines have ways of measuring or estimating the overall user satisfaction with your Blog. How much of a factor this is today, we don’t know, but you can bet that it will become more important over time.

By designing our sites for human visitors and “surfer friendly”, not just for spiders, we are protecting ourselves against any negative impact from user feedback. This is a very important part of the “fast start” system, and always has been. Take this point into consideration when you build your Blog. You can also use the WordPress Tandil Theme to make this even easier. This theme was coded to make your blog surfer friendly.
